The aim of the bursaries is to enable researchers from outside London to carry out historical research in London’s libraries and archives (including, but not restricted to, the Institute of Historical Research, Lambeth Palace Library, the British Library, The National Archives at Kew, Dr Williams’ Library, and London Metropolitan Archives).

Early career researchers (postgraduates, postdoctoral researchers, independent researchers, and lecturers or researchers on fixed term contracts) will be given priority.

Successful applicants will be expected to:

  • Use the IHR as a base when in London
  • Participate regularly in the British History in the Seventeenth Century seminar.
  • Give a paper to the seminar
  • Bursaries will normally be for travel, accommodation and/or research expenses (e.g. imaging costs)
