MD Midland’s largest grant scheme, Open Grants, covers a broad range of museum activity. The maximum amount an individual museum can apply for through our Open Grant scheme is £5,000.

The grant scheme supports a wide range of activities that strengthen museums and cultural organisations, aligned with MDM and Arts Council England priorities.

Funding can be used to improve collections care and management, including conservation, storage, documentation and security; build organisational resilience through business planning, governance and fundraising development; and deliver audience-focused projects that increase inclusion, accessibility and community engagement.

It also supports workforce and volunteer development through training and wellbeing initiatives, as well as environmentally responsible practices such as energy audits and sustainability improvements.

Eligible costs include consultancy, essential equipment and materials, evaluation, and project-related marketing and communications.
