Last updated: 02/02/2026

Heritage Open Days' popular youth engagement training and development programme is back! For 2026 they are running a regionally focused version of New Wave in Leicestershire.
If successful, you will plan and deliver at least one event in collaboration with 18-30 year olds, taking place during Heritage Open Days 2026 (11-20 September). Your event(s) will be designed to push the boundaries of the usual work that you or your organisation have delivered in the past and most importantly, you will produce your event(s) with and not just for young people. You will actively consult and collaborate with 18-30 year olds throughout the programme.
You'll get:
- A programme of 5 in-person training sessions for you and one young collaborator (18-30) that you work with on the project.
- Direct training from top industry professionals (previous speakers include: Kids in Museums, Historic England, The Audience Agency, and The Tate).
- 1-2-1 support from the festival team throughout the project.
- £2,500 grant per participant to support the delivery of your event.
- Marketing and comms support including paid social advertising.
- Help with evaluation and insight gathering before, during, and after your event.
- A local peer network for support and guidance, plus optional networking opportunities.
- Support with expenses for accessibility and attendance at training where needed.
